Are you answering ads online and not getting any response?  Did you know that fewer than 10% of job seekers actually get a job by answering online job ads? Here are five ways to outsmart the ATS (Applicant Tracking System).
1) Your resume has to match the job description 85-90%.  If not, no human being will ever look at your resume.  You need to use as many key words and phrases in your accomplishments, skills and job history as possible from the job description.

2) You need to answer the ad within 24 hours otherwise you will be too late.  Often the hiring manager has someone in mind for the job or has already interviewed some promising candidates.  Once the ad goes in it is already too late.

3) You need to network your way into the company to find someone who is in charge of the department where you will be working.  Ask your networking contacts if they know someone who works there or

4) Use LinkedIn to contact your alumni network and see if there is anyone who graduated from your school who is working at the company.  Connect to that person on LinkedIn. Have a chat and then

5) Write directly to the hiring manager at the company saying you have applied online.  Use your cover letter to mention some key skills and key accomplishments that relate to the job.  Attach your resume.

Remember: The two best ways to find a job are through networking and writing directly to the hiring manager . Do not spend all your time answering ads on Monster, LinkedIn, ZipRecruiter and other job sites.  Send out 5 to 6 direct emails a week to potential hiring managers.
